Born
13th of October 1929, Lismore Co Waterford A naturally gifted Artist,
John has spent his life from childhood sketching and painting in both
watercolour and oils. Despite a range of careers he discovered his love
of the sea through a long life as a Radio Officer on a passenger vessel
the M.V. Aureol, on the West African route. Meeting the famous marine
Artist John Stobart during this period, proved to have a strong influence
on his work, which is evident in the quality of his seascapes. It was
Stobart who influenced John to turn professional. Since then he has had
a number of successful exhibitions both here and in the USA. His love
of the west of Ireland brings him to exhibit there frequently. His paintings
are much sought after by galleries and hang in numerous establishments
including Galway University and the Oireachteas. John, an early riser
walks the Dublin mountains every day and swims the whole year round in
the famous Forty Foot. Below is a selection of his works. All works are
framed, currently he paints in oils with brush or palette knife on canvas
or board.
