Freedoms Road
Michael O'Faolain

I was conceived and born to be free
With an instinct all of my own to see
Like a star in the sky you might say
To keep in line for the rest of my days.

Raised and schooled to bring my talent through
Would be happiness and fulfillment as I grew
But education and punishment twisted the rule
Of natures trusting fragile and caring school.

For misshaped or misguided instincts
Severs uniqueness vital links
To create a person at war within
And labelled society’s lower end.

For those lucky few who get a glimpse inside
And a chance to right that slippery slide
From empty pain to worthwhile life
To find their niche that was denied by right.

So back to school with the inner child
And heal the hurt that disturbed the mind
To grow within in a trusting group
With heart and soul in tandem troupe

To walk again with a head held high
With no care of society’s critical eye
For the eye of the heart is all that will matter
When the day is at end and the mind has a natter.

To find the good sleep and eat the good food
And share our life's road to help others mood
To recognise life’s beauty around everywhere
For life is beauty is God is love is care.
